I just received the confirmed dates and times for the public hearings to discuss the proposed TMA expansion. They are as follows: Thursday, Feb. 21st at the DEP Sessions Woods Wildlife Office in Burlington from 6:30-8:30pm. Rte 69 about 3.5 miles south of Rte 4. Tuesday, Feb. 26th at the New Hartford Town Hall in the Senior Center/Meeting Room on the 3rd floor from 6:30-8:30pm. Rte 44 in the center of New Hartford. Tuesday, March 4th at the Bristol Fish and Game Club immediately after the monthly club meeting from 7:30-9pm. Take Rte 69 south from Bristol to Long Swamp Rd., follow the signs at the end of Long Swamp Rd. to the clubhouse. The DEP will present the 3 proposals currently being considered, and then the public will be invited to share their opinions about these changes. Anyone wishing to speak will need to SIGNUP BEFORE THE MEETING STARTS!! You will then have 3 minutes to express your thoughts about the proposals. If you are planning to speak, please BE SPECIFIC about what you like or don't like about the proposals, don't just say you like/dislike them without reasons why. The FRAA is supporting the proposal that extends the upper TMA to the Whittemore abutments, makes the area from the Whittemore abutments to the Goodwin dam a seasonal TMA, and makes the river from the Rte 219 bridge to Rte 177 a Trophy Trout area with a 2 fish, 12" limit. Now is the time to come forward and show your support for this outstanding fishery. There has been alot of talk about this issue, and the DEP needs to hear from everyone concerned that they are on the right path in regards to maintaining this wonderful river. I look forward to seeing you all at these meetings. Tight lines, Drew.
